Why don’t people pick up their dog’s poo in the park.

ossibly, because some people have been allowing their dog to said procedure for many years, and dont see the need. Maybe, as horses, and other feral annimals do same, it could be construed as pointless.

I never did enjoy the times when dogs did what dogs do en mass, but it appears to be to be a natural part of life. More so than following ones dog around with a plastic bag.

Do i follow shadow around with a plastic bag… leave it up to your imagination.

Well, most horses and feral animals have a fairly natural diet and I really have to say that I find dog poo to be the most offensive of all poos. I spent nearly 1/2 hour at the park trying to get it all out of the tread in my sneakers so that I didn’t traipse it through the car and my home. I’m sure the people who allow their dogs to foul the park are much more particular in their own gardens.
    Just selfishness!!!!

I know dogs that are trained to only poo at home - how do they train them - I do not know!!
I have no problem with coming across the occasional dog pat as it were if I am out tromping across the park but I have no wish to have to dispose of three from the footpath outside my home - where I am sure they would take a very long time to break down!!! Yuck

Aww, but you’ve got to pick up the poop, Shadowmaster! It ruins people’s days… if the only shoes one can buy have a centimetre of tread (as some schoolshoes do) then it’s there for ages no matter how hard you try to work it out with a stick or hit it with a rock or walk through puddles.
Leaving doggy doo out where people can stand in it is like scowling at a stranger - only they have to scrub the scowl out of their eyes, and then find it’s still there. And you wouldn’t scowl at a stranger would you?

as much as it isn’t a pleasant task I believe dog owners have a responsibility to clean up after their animal whenever possible.

Perhaps this is like asking why do some motorists continually break the speed limit? Sadly, some folks just do. The point is that there are plenty of dog owners who DO pick up after their dogs and even act as ‘consciences’ for some recalcitrant owners who offend. We point out to them the waywardness of their actions, provide them with bags, and basically attempt to shame them into being good citizens. The other half of the story is that legislation does exist to fine/penalise owners. Why don’t councils concentrate on this aspect of their responsibilities, instead of taking the ‘easy’ route and fining little of ladies walking geriatric dogs off leash in empty parks? It would also help if more lights were installed in parks so that people who walk their muts after dark can at least see when and where their animals have deposited droppings. So yes, there are some people who simply don’t care, but there are plenty of dog owners who do. The onus should also be on councils to do their jobs properly and to provide the necessary facilities to ensure safety for all.

If you walk around areas where horses, cows, and other feral animals go then you should expect to walk in it, the trouble is when dogs walk around our areas we don’t expect to walk in it. You make the choice to own a dog that choice includes many responsibilities, I don’t own a pet at the moment because I cant look after it fully.

I rarely pick up after my dog because I rarely take her to the park, but if I did I would. I never take my dog to the childs play area or let her run on the footy oval. She might not dump but you never know. I prefer to take her where she can run safely off-lead under voice control, state forests are great for this. Luckily, even here she gets bashful and likes to dump unseen off the path. It’s not that hard, I walk her for an hour at least five days a week. Being a dog owner means accepting the responsibility that goes with it and respecting others. I don’t have a problem with this. If others do, perhaps they should consider owning a goldfish instead.

I do pick up the pooh! I can’t answer for other selfish people who get all dog owners a bad name….One of the advantage of a little dog is its limited effort, on my behalf to be polite and take its rubbish home!

Must admit though Harry, I never felt compelled to pick up after someone’s pooch!
