We moved into our rental property in August of 2005. At the time we looked at the property there was a large house being built directly behind, within a 100m of our back door. However, we loved the place and took it, after being assured by the agent that the the house behind was nearly completed. After moving in the people building their house informed us that it was not scheduled to be finished until the following March and we then had to put up with the building noise, dust and dirt over the washing and the builders ogling me breast-feeding our new baby for the next 8 months. March eventually arrived and we all heaved a sigh of relief that the house was finished and we were still on good terms with our new neighbours.
Within weeks of the building being completed, the people on the corner - three houses to the left, behind us - began the extensive renovations to their house. Including, amongst other things, building a complete new story to the existing house. So for another few months we were again subjected to building noise, dust and builders.
Hot on the heels of the completion of the renovations, the house diagonally behind us was demolished, once more plunging us into a dust and noise haze. Once that block had been cleared and after a brief hiatus the building of a new house on that site began with work starting at around 7:00 in the morning and generally going through until 5:00 in the evening.
So here I sit, nearly two years after moving in to our house, still listening to the dulcet tones of nail-guns and shouting builders. Needless to say we are heartily sick of living next to a succession of building sites and if anything new starts up when this last one is finished we shall go quite mad!
