Bravo Playschool

I would just like to give a loud, well deserved cheer for the team who bring us Playschool.
This show, which incidentally has just turned 40, is absolutely outstanding. It is as fresh and engaging as it was when I was small and as such is a superb television achievement. Energetic, bright, inviting, positive and FUN, Playschool is far and away the best show on television for young children. Unlike other shows aimed at this age group, each ep is themed and well thought out and they maintain routines whilst still remaining fresh and exciting. Everything that is made on Playschool, shows an incredibly creative, innovative team at work behind the scenes. The actors employed by this show (of which there have been over 70!!) are down to earth, friendly and obviously enjoying themselves immensely. Best of all however, the accompanist who provides the running soundtrack throughout the show is just brilliant.
Not for us in this house, the overexposed, over-edited, patronising, marketing monsters, of Wiggles, HI 5 and the like. Give us Playschool, with their bears in there, their chairs as well, their people with games and their stories to tell. Well done ABC

Hear hear… I hope it’s still on air when I have kids :)

I am happy that my taxes are providing children with a wonderful program like Playschool.

Yeah, great show. I’m told it is a sought-after and extremely demanding gig. On tight a time schedule and budget the actors get one shot - they do look like they’re enjoying themselves but they are under the pump.
I thought the woman behind the Hi Five Juggernaut - Susan Oliver? - had a fair bit to do with Playschool. Maybe not. Either way I don’t have a problem with Hi Five. They get my 2-year-old girl up and dancing and Charlie’s Fruit Salad Bop is one of the few kids’ things I have no trouble watching ad nauseam. Creepy I know but true.

Yep it is - and very difficult to get an audition. But all the big stars are doing childrens shows now. Jane Horrocks, Julian Clarey, Stephen Fry, Fiona Shaw, William H Macy to name but a few. It is great to see that producers of childrens television have finally recognised that children are worthy of quality performers and quality performances. That is my biggest problem with Hi5 and Wiggles etc. I just can’t stand bad acting. I know that my kids are as undecerning as any other child when it comes to the finer points of performance, but as I usually sit down with my kids to watch tele, those shows just make my eyes roll back in my head and my stomach churn. (also the longer I can go into target and such places without being pestered for the latest wiggles or Hi5 crap which is double the price and half the value the better.)
    PS
Sesame Street still Rocks too after all these years!

One of the great things about having kids is they give you an excuse to watch Playschool, it rocks, and I rather like the Bananas too.

Yeah the Bananas have an “Adventure Island ” quality to them - Am I showing my age?

Life was a lot harder when I was a kid but I still remember Playschool - ” Today, we’re going through the broken window.”

Can we make this into a petition and send it to whoever said Playschool was out of date?

Our kids loved the recipe making time on Play School. Our 9 year old still likes making “Icky Sticky Fruitpop Lickys”, they’re just basic fruit and juice icy poles but we still laugh together when she tries to say the name fast. Thankyou Play School for entertaining us too :)
