Is this a “boy thing”?
Published 1 year, 9 months ago in My life.I have mentioned before that in our house we try to avoid using poisons of any type. This particularly extends to fly sprays and insect baits. As I am not a big fan of creepy crawlies, I initially raised some objections to being unarmed in the face of an insect invasion, but my partner, to whom I owe my poison free life, told me not to worry. “I am”, he boasted, “deadly with a rubber band!”
“Hmmmm, we’ll see” I thought.
But from that day forward, armed only with a rubber band ( actually two rubber bands joined together for extra grunt) he has kept the house free of blowies, house flies, cockroaches, spiders ( we only kill the dangerous ones) mosquitoes and moths. I have never seen anything like it- he rarely misses, and never misses a second time, be the target a bush cockie or a pantry moth. He is totally my hero!
Now I consider myself a capable sort of Gal. My father always thought his daughters should be as self sufficient as his sons. I can change a tyre, syphon petrol, I even own a few power tools, but at no time was I ever taught to shoot stuff with a rubber band. Is this a boy thing in general or does my fella possess extraordinary powers?

You can get a really nifty variant on this technology from the ecology shop. It is a round disk which is propelled by a rubber band sling shot mechanism. Deadly accurate, and with a much bigger area to swat/ kill with.
Is it a boy thing- for me (a definite boy) i just hate the smell of the sprays, and dont like breathing any foreign material into my lungs.

I think its a boy thing, my son is a dab hand at shooting things with an elastic band, my daughter (not that she’s even really interested) usually gets the elastic band to richochet into her face……and good on you for being poison free.
As a littl’un, my twin sister was able to grab flies out of the air as they flew past.
Shootin’ stuff with lackys is great. Definitely a boy thing. That should not minimise your admiration for ya fella though Goldie. Shooting a cockie on the run or a fly on the wing is hero material. Worship him, for he is a genius amoung boys.
